Faster Drive: Are you sure you want to copy a file without its properties?

Modified on Tue, 1 Aug, 2023 at 11:52 AM

This message can be safely ignored.  Details on why it occurs are below.

Issue

Sometimes when copying files from your local hard drive to Faster Drive, you may get a message asking if you want to copy a file without it's properties.

Cause

This issue often happens when manually copying files from a Box/DropBox folder to Faster Drive.  For help migrating from a legacy system to Clio, please contact our Universal Migrator team.

Why does this happen?

This information is intended for an IT Professional
Some apps such as Box and DropBox utilize a rarely-used filesystem feature known as "NTFS Alternate Data Streams" to store additional information about the files they contain.  Specifically, the information contains the data necessary for Box and DropBox to "link" the file on your computer to the file that is saved on their servers.

This message is essentially Windows notifying you that, after the file is copied to Faster Drive, the copy of the file will no longer be linked back to Box / DropBox.
