Faster Drive - The file ' ' is too large

Modified on Sat, 3 Jun, 2023 at 11:32 AM

ISSUE

When trying to create files in Faster Drive, you receive cryptic error messages such as:
------
The file '<%1 NULL:NameDest>' is too large for the destination file system
------

Even though your computer has plenty of space on it.

CAUSE

Your computer is using a technology called "WebDav" to connect to Faster Drive.  In Microsoft's implementation of WebDav, there is a bug that affects windows user accounts with special characters in the login name.  For example, if you were to log into your computer as "Smith&Smith", the ampersand (&) would trigger the bug.

RESOLUTION

Unfortunately this is a bug in windows that has existed for some time.  To work around the bug, please log into your computer (not Clio/Faster Suite) using a windows user account that does not have any special characters in it.

To determine if you are affected by this issue, open a windows command prompt and type:

echo %USERNAME% %USERDOMAIN%

If any of the areas in red have special characters in them (such as $ & or %), then you are affected by this issue.  To resolve it, have your IT administrator change your windows account name so that it no longer has the special characters in it.
