Windows does not like giant directory listings
File Systems such as Microsoft Windows and Apple's OSX generally have performance issues when you have more than 1000 folders inside of another folder. This situation does not occur very often, but in versions of Faster Drive that occur prior to June 2018, large firms with tens-of-thousands of matters could have performance issues while using Faster Drive.
Faster Drive keeps things Fast
In order to provide the best experience for large firms using Faster Drive, in our June 2018 release, we've added some automatic regrouping that will take place if there are more than 1000 matters in a group. You may see folders with names in the following formats:
Format #1: A, B, C, ...
If there are more than 1000 matters in a folder, the matters will be grouped by the first letter of the client name. To resolve this, enhance your matter organization so that items will be separated differently (usually adding the attorney to the front solves this).
Format #2: (0000-0999), (1000-1999), (2000-2999)...
If a folder has already been grouped by Format #1 and there are still more than 1000 items per folder, they will be grouped into folders of 1000 items each. To resolve this, enhance your matter organization so that items will be separated differently (usually adding the attorney to the front solves this).
