Faster Drive: Some files have (#####) next to their names

Clio allows documents with duplicate names

When using the Clio website, Clio allows users to upload multiple, separate documents with exactly the same name.  For example you may have a folder that has entries in it similar to the following:

PCs do not allow documents with duplicate names

Even though Clio allows multiple files with the same name, PCs and Macs do not so Clio's "Document IDs" are appended to the files in order to generate a unique name.

To resolve the conflict, the file that has the earliest creation date will display the original name, in this case, "My Document.docx".  Any subsequent documents with the same name will have the Clio document ID attached to their name, immediately preceding the file extension as shown in the following picture:

It is important to note that when this happens, Faster Drive is not actually renaming the files but is simply showing an alternate name for it.  The Clio website will continue to display both files using identical names.

While not required, we do recommend that each document have a unique name in order to avoid confusion among members of your firm.
