Activating Snippets Without the Abbreviation

Have you created tons of snippets yet?  Are you finding it difficult to remember all of your abbreviations?  Don’t worry, we’ve thought of this.

Let’s go to Faster Suite on the Faster Ribbon, click the settings wheel, and select Text Snippets on the left.  On this panel, we can see that there’s an option for “Show the Faster Snippets preview window when I type” and by default the text for this option is three commas in a row.

The Snippet Preview Window

This means that if we type three commas on our keyboard, our snippet window will appear and we can select any snippet in any of our enabled libraries to activate that snippet.  Or more simply, we only have to remember one abbreviation instead of remembering a bunch!

Snippet Organization

Now that we know we can easily access our snippets this way, let’s talk a little bit about snippet organization.

If we have a bunch of snippets and we want to activate them from the snippet preview window, it will definitely help to have them organized into folders so we don’t have to spend a lot of time finding the snippets we want.

To organize our snippets, we can go to Custom Libraries across the top of our settings window and open the snippet editor for any library that we want to customize.

On the left we can view our snippets and any folders or subfolders that we’ve created.  In case you missed it in our previous videos, you can right-click on the left side or click the green plus button to create a new folder, then drag and drop snippets to organize them into the folders.  We can also create subfolders to more specifically organize our snippets.

When we’re done organizing our snippets, we can activate our preview window with three commas to see that our snippets are now organized into folders and are much easier to navigate.
