Using Draftify and Finalize

Draftify and Finalize are some document drafting automations that will save you time working with documents stored in Clio.

How to Draftify a Document

Draftify can be used by dragging a Word document to the Documents tab on the Faster Ribbon, then one of the two Draftify buttons.  There’s a button for DOCX and a button for PDF, and each button will generate a new document of the specified type.

For example, after dropping a document on DOCX, Microsoft Word will appear and we’ll see some things happening before it closes again.  Once it’s finished, we can refresh the folder to find another copy of this document labeled DRAFT.

Opening the document will show us that Draftify has added a watermark to the document that says Draft and has entered some version information into the footer of the document.  Now we can send the Draftified document to a client to review.

How to Finalize a Document

When we’re ready to file our document, we will probably want to convert it to a PDF.  This is where Finalize comes in.

Let’s drag the document to the Documents tab on the Faster Ribbon, then drop it on the Finalize button.  Once again, we’ll see Microsoft Word do some things, then disappear.  If we refresh the folder again we’ll see that there’s now a PDF version of this document labeled final.  There’s no watermark in this one but we can scroll down to see the version information in the footer.

Customizing Draftify and Finalize

It’s important to note that both Draftify and Finalize are customizable by going to Faster Suite on the Faster Ribbon, clicking the settings wheel, then selecting Draftify / Finalize on the left.

Here, we can choose whether to include the watermark and the version information for these features, and customize what they say.
